Braised green beans
Note: this one is a work in progress. Still perfecting it.
Ingredients
- 8-12 ounces of green beans
- 2-3 tsp olive oil
- 4 tablespoons of a braising liquid. chicken stocks is best, but water works too
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 garlic clove, smashed and minced
- dash of salt
- 2 tsp lemon juice (optional)
Instructions
Use a large skillet or pan. I like stainless steel but non-stick or cast iron also work.
- get the pan hot, over medium heat
- add olive oil to the pan and swirl/coat the pan with it
- put the beans in the pan
- toss the beans once every 1-2 minutes. Don't touch them between tosses, let them brown.
- toss a total of 4-8 minutes. look for the beans to get browned and a little wrinkly. avoid letting them get soft and floppy.
- add the braising liquid and cover. reduce heat, but the liquid should gently boil.
- braise for 4-6 minutes. 4 minutes for more crispy, 6 minutes for soft/floppy
- turn off the heat and toss in the garlic, soy sauce, lemon juice, and salt
